Email2DB - Using Email To Link Separate Systems
Another use for Email2DB is to link separate
computer systems.
Regardless of how two or more computer systems are separated, geographically,
operating system, database type, hardware type etc. One thing that can always be
used as a way of communication between the two systems is Email.
An example:
A business has several separate sites and a head office.
The remote sites each run a personnel system. The head office also runs a
personnel system that has to be kept up to date with each site's data. Currently
the business maintains VPN links to each site and data between the systems is
synchronised in a batch process. The VPN links often go down causing data
problems.
Email2DB could be used as an alternative way to link the separate
systems. Each remote site could send an email whenever an employee record is
changed. The email could be sent using secure SMTP. Email2DB running at the head
office could read these emails and update the main personnel system. No complex
VPN links would need to be maintained.. and the link would not be affected by
network problems or outages at either end. Data at the head office would also be
more up to date since emails from each site would come in as their data is
updated.
